FACULTY OF MEDICINE - MEDICINE (ENGLISH) - - MEDICINE (ENGLISH)

General Description

Our School of Medicine that has started education in 2013-2014 provides 100 % English education and following its starting of education, it has been chosen by many students in the country and accepting many students also from abroad. Its life of education continues in the Bakirkoy Campus since 2016-2017, which was started in the Mahmutbey Campus, with the support of Altinbas Holding, and in the body of Istanbul Altınbaş University, affiliated with the hospitals of the Medical Park Health Group.

Students who complete this program successfully are granted Bachelor Degree in Medicine.

Bachelor

Enrolment of students in programs at Bachelor’s and vocational degree levels in Turkey is done according to the results of a centrally-organized two-stage exam (YGS and LYS), according to the Higher Education Act, and the candidate’s being at least high school graduate is imperative. Centre for Student Selection and Placement (OSYM) places students into programs they are willing to study according to their scores in the central placement exam and high school scores. Students from abroad are accepted according to the criteria that are determined by the Foreign Student Acceptance Commission of our university.

Recognition of prior learning is subject to the framework bylaws at national level set by the Council of Higher Education and to the related bylaws of Istanbul Altınbaş University. Transfer of students among programs within the university is done according to quotas determined by the executive councils of the relevant schools. Quotas are determined by the relevant executive councils as a percentage of the total quotas specified in the OSYM Guide every year. Transfer quotas among programs within the university are announced at the university web page before a certain period of time from the application deadline together with the minimum scores and the other requirements. In order for application for transfer within the university among programs of different central placement exam score types, the score of the applicant in the central placement exam for the exam score type of the program to be applied should not be lower than the score of the student who is placed countrywide in a program of the same type with the lowest basal score. Students who complete vocational school programs and the open university programs may apply for horizontal transfer to the Bachelor’s Degree programs. Students who are the graduates or last year students of vocational schools at the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the graduates of foreign schools with the same conditions, whose equivalency is accepted in Turkey, may apply for horizontal transfer to the Bachelor’s Degree programs. Graduates and the last year students of vocational schools who admit students by the central placement exam or by special exams should take the DGS exam to transfer horizontally to the Bachelor’s Degree programs.

Students who successfully complete this program earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine.

The School of Medicine at Istanbul Altınbaş University aims to educate its students as exceptional medical doctors in their field with their knowledge and communication skills in the field. Students at the School of Medicine at Istanbul Altınbaş University meet with the realities of the health area, gain experience before graduation through clinical practice, and have the chance to meet with and gain from their experiences of the leading academicians and professionals in the field, through elective courses, conferences and seminars.

The graduates of this program work as medical doctors in the public and the private hospitals and in the health sectors. The graduates of this program are equipped with fundamental and technical knowledge and communication skills, foreign language skills and teamwork skills in order to be able to work in these areas.

Students who graduate from this program can apply for studying at programs at graduate level.

For each courses students are required to take the final exam aside from the midterm exams and the other coursework. At least one midterm exam is given per semester. Aside from midterm exams, quizzes may be given without prior announcement. Final exams are given according to the schedule announced by the university. The final grades are determined by the instructors by considering the scores in the midterm and the final exams, and the coursework and the class attendances within the semester. Students who could not take the final exams due to acceptable excuses are given make up exams. Final grades are expressed as letter grades. Letter grades are AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, DC, DD, and F. According to the grading system over 4, the value of AA is 4.00, BA is 3.50, BB is 3.00, CB is 2.50, CC is 2.00, DC is 1.50, DD is 1.00, and F is 0.00. Success level of students is determined at the end of each semester by calculating the semester grade point average and the cumulative grade point average. Credit points earned by the student from a course are calculated by multiplying the credit hours of the course and the value of the final letter grade. For repeated courses, the last grade is taken into account. All grades are shown in the transcript of the student. Students with a minimum cumulative grade point average and a minimum semester grade point average of at least 2.00 are considered satisfactory. Among these students, those with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00-3.49 in a semester are in semester honour student status and those with 3.50-4.00 are in semester high honour status. For the students to start their training at the 4th year and to be able to graduate, students with a cumulative grade point average and a semester grade point average below 2.00 are considered unsatisfactory.

Students who successfully complete this program can graduate.
